"BLOG POST #3 -- IMAGES"

"THE PRESENTATION"

This week, we explored the concept of presentations and the usage of media during the presentation. In the Google Slides presentation made about oil changes titled "How to Change Transmission Fluid in a Manual Transmission", we were given two examples which explain how to perform an oil change onto a manual transmission vehicle. However the difference between the two were the presentations themselves; one presented with text-only, and the other presented included with images. My knowledge with automotive service is quite limited, and I found the presentation with images to be much easier to follow compared to the text-only presentation. It was difficult to follow the text-only presentation as I would have to do further research to figure out which part was the focus due to my lack of experience.

"IMPORTANCE OF IMAGES" -- VISUALS

I believe it is important for images or a type of visual material to be present within the presentation to activate more visual sense; which further enhances the learning experience. When developing a presentation using Google Slides, for example, it is important to not only curate the presentation with relavant and important material, but to choose the images/media carefully as it can be extremely easy to "fluff" up the presentation with images that do not relate to the topic or are not relavant. Taking into consideration to the aesthetics of the presentation when including images relies on what importance the image has for the topic. In a slide where an image is the main focus, inserting the image to be in the middle or largest visual may prove to help. This will garnish attention to the topic in-hand, all in the while providing important information (considering the image is helpful or important).

"CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS & SPEAKER NOTES" -- AN ESSENTIAL

Clear instructions or text in a presentation is very important as it concises important material into one summary. Similar to images, it is important to remember to not bombarde the presentation with excess text as not only is it overwhelming, it is not pleasing to the eye either. Concising text in the presentation helps provide the proper information for the audience to look at when listening while the speaker is expanding the material. Speaker notes are used for this. Speaker notes are essential with reducing the clutter in the presentations as it allows opportunity to expand the topic further all in the while keeping the aesthetics of the presentation clean, clear, and under control

"GOOGLE SLIDES" -- USABLE?

Google Slides can most definitely be used in Education, and when used correctly, can really help with future classroom lessons. It is easy to navigate, accessible, and most importantly... free. The collaborative feature is probably its selling point as it makes group presentation work very easily for all group members to access.

"MY THOUGHTS"

In my opinion, presentations are not only a speaker clicking through a Google Slides presentation and talking; but it is a presentation where both the speaker and Slides are presenting. The visual aspect of images in the presentation and the important and concise text on the slides are providing information for the audience, while the speaker is backing-up the information presented with elaboration. The personality or public-speaking ability of the speaker vary from person-to-person, however with the correct confidence and energy, a great presentation will be presented.
